1. You’re Still Near
© J. Travis Sparks
Thinking of you while rocking in your chair,
‘Bout the moments in life when you were there.
It’s the year of firsts since you’ve been gone,
Each day is another one that begins at dawn.
Time has really flown; it’s almost November,
By far the quickest year that I can remember.
You were called to Heaven and no longer here,
But while I rock in this chair you’re still near.

A beautiful angel is all that is here
Saying O’Lord please leave me here
Not ready to leave but has to go
Wants to go back but God says no
A husband and children
Grandchildren and friends
A meaningful life that suddenly ends
And angel is what she was meant to be
Now think of all that she can see
Watching over her family night and day
Saying I love you in her own special way
In the night we sleep and in the day we cry
While she watches us all from her star in the sky

Thank you for the gift of love.
Now you’re sharing it up above.
You had many things to say,
All in a caring way.
You always saw good in everyone,
No matter what they’ve done.
You were always the one we could all lean on,
Even though it must have felt like a ton.
You were always the strength of the family.
Now we must let you rest calmly.
We say goodbye,
As tears roll down our eyes.
I know your place in heaven has a good view.
You’re telling God,
I need to keep an eye on a few.
I know you will always be in our hearts and minds.
I must go, but I’ll never forget you’re one of a kind.
4. A Week In Heaven
© J. Travis Sparks
She hugs and kisses her loved ones at Heaven’s gate,
Then shares with them the joy of her new found fate.
She goes on and on about the ones she left behind,
It’s going to take a while, because she was Grams to all mankind.
Now God bestows the heavenly rewards upon her head,
As always, she shares them with others instead.
She now receives the deed to her new heavenly mansion,
To make room for all of us, she’s already planning the expansion.
Heaven’s newest garden is now in bloom,
She started working on it, as soon as she left that room.
Not being able to work in the soil now for some time,
I am sure her smile is brighter than summer’s sunshine.
So Grams wished for all to understand,
That God is the key to the eternal land.
If you choose Him before it’s too late,
Grams will meet you at Heaven’s gate.

Grandmothers are always here to comfort you,
No matter what you do.
They dry your tears, help you conquer your fears,
And say they will love you for all your years.
Mine always told me to give it my all,
To never give up, even if I fall.
She was always there when I needed a friend
And time with her I loved to spend.
Oh that day, that horrible day,
The day I was informed and I had much dismay.
I didn’t know what to say or do,
I was sad and heartbroken and didn’t know if I could push through.
The funeral was depressing and I couldn’t help but cry.
My tears were like rain, I felt like I could just die.
I miss her so much; I wish she was here,
But even though she’s gone, I still hear her whisper “I love you” in my ear.
6. Grandma Died
© Ron Tranmer
Heavenly Father took Grandma
up to Heaven when she died.
When my Momma told me
I ran to my room and cried.
I asked Heavenly Father
why my grandma had to die.
I cried myself to sleep, and dreamt
that Grandpa told me why.
“Grandchild, I know how you miss
your Grandma’s tender touch.
I know how much you love her,
and she loves you very much.
But I missed her too, sweet child
so Heavenly Father brought her here.
If you could see our happiness
you wouldn’t shed one tear.”
When I awoke from dreaming
the wonderful dream I had
About Grandma being with Grandpa,
I didn’t feel so bad.
7. Sad To Say Blue
We left in a hurry so mad and confused
When the door slammed it left your heart bruised
So sad and blue
And so much pain inside you
When you cried I cried
When you laughed I laughed too
But when you died I cried
You weren’t there and I was alone
I thought I felt my heart turn to stone
The tears poured down salty and wet
God took you away
And now I am left
To say goodbye
Goodbye to you.

She wasn’t like the other grans,
Spoiling kids with sweets,
The minute you stepped out of line,
That slipper’s off her feet!
She never was a pushover,
The final word was hers,
And if you were to argue back,
She’d ring your bloody ears!
She had her own opinions,
She made her feelings known,
And when it came to grandad,
She could always pick a bone!
But she was someone I’d depend on,
Whenever things turned bad,
And someone I could talk to if I was feeling sad!
She was someone who’d stand up for me,
No matter what I’d done,
Someone who always loved me,
Like a second mum.
I’m gonna miss my grandma,
More and more each day.
I think the world’s a sadder place,
Since she passed away.
